To be an established and vibrant Muslim Council that will inculcate the values and teaching of Islam in Muslims as well as addressing challenges confronting Muslims in the practice of the religion.

Vision of Northern Region Muslims Council of Ghana

• Promote a better understanding of Islam through the teaching and learning of Islamic fundamental doctrines and principles as enshrined in the Quran and Sunnah of Prophet Mohammed (S.A.W).
• Take practical steps to encourage and ensure that Muslims live by the teaching of Islam at all times so as to project a good image of the Religion.
• To promote unity, love, peace, goodwill and understanding among all Muslims sects or denominations through continuous dialogue.
• To mobilize funds, logistics and technical support locally and internationally for the developmental needs of Muslims such as Education, health, infrastructure, Da'wah, etc.
• To promote peaceful coexistence between Muslims and non-Muslims in order to reduce hatred and conflicts in our communities.
• To establish guidance and counselling centres in a bid to addressing social, moral, religious and other needs of the Muslim Ummah.
• To establish/assist in the establishment of systems and structures that will promote quality education (Islamic & Secular Education) and skills training of the Muslim youth.
• Promote and encourage more research into Islam Theology and best practices of the past and current times for the purpose of deepening the understanding of the Religion.
• Collaborate with Administrative and Traditional authorities for development, maintenance of discipline, peace, law and order.

In several verses of the Quran, the Almighty Allah in His wisdom reminds Muslims that they are brothers and sisters and must be each other’s keeper and not be disunited.

Allah says: the believers are a single brotherhood so make reconciliation between your brothers and fear Allah that you may receive mercy. (Quran 49:10). Further, Allah says: “ and hold fast by the covenant of Allah together and be not disunited (Quran 3:103)

These verses motivated and touched the hearts of Haj Adams Goldwater, Haj Mohammed Zakaria (Nuru Zamaan), Dr Mohammed Awal Issah of Anbariya and later, Afa Issah Alhassan Abubakari of Kamaria, the current Regional Manager of Islamic Education Unit N/R and like-minds to come out with the idea of establishing the Northern Region Muslims Council of Ghana. The councils aims at uniting the hearts and minds of all Muslims in the region to promote love, peace, solidarity, and deeper and purposeful collaboration for progressive development in Muslim communities.

Broader consultations were done. Our revered Imams and Ulamaa were consulted and they happily welcomed the idea and expressed their preparedness to support the council achieve its aims and objectives. The traditional authorities were consulted and they expressed their joy and willingness to support the council realize its dreams. Other relevant stakeholder the council is collaborating with is the media in Northern region. Another vibrant organization with representation in the council is the Federation Muslim Women’s Organization of Ghana (FOMWAG).

The Council has been holding its meetings for the past two (2) years in preparation towards the historic launch on the 10th December 2022.

The council is dully registered with the Registrar General’s Department. The activities of the council are guided and govern by its mission, aims and objectives and the various committees set up to ensure orderliness and efficiency.
